Teaching Global ReadinessThe future is global. Teachers need to develop globally competent teaching so that they can disrupt inequities worldwide and educate all students to be prepared for career, community, and civic life in a globally interconnected world. At UMSL, we focus on one particular approach to globally competent teaching: Critical Global Teaching. This approach emphasizes how infusing global learning across grade levels and content areas fosters global competence and supports equity in education.

What is it?
Twice a year over 200 teacher and school counselor candidates join together to discuss important issues in teaching and learning at the UMSL's Grand Seminar conference. Organized by Stephanie Koscielski in the College of Education, the future educators investigate big-picture questions like: How is school changing to prepare students for a globally interconnect world? And what effects does trauma have on learning? Education experts host interactive breakout sessions for the candidates addressing such questions. Administrators and professors present research, strategies, and experience. Although Grand Seminar conferences are prepared for the future educators, the sessions are open to UMSL faculty and the teaching community as professional development opportunities.
